She is press spokeswoman at Globetrotter in Munich. He runs expeditions as a mountain guide. Together, Alix von Melle and Luis Stitzinger are one of the most successful German big-mountain rope teams. They have been travelling together for 17 years, have attempted nine eightthousanders and successfully reached the peaks of six of them – without additional oxygen. Their tour guide features additional six- and seventhousanders as well as details of many excursions in the Alps. In their first book bearing the title “Leidenschaft fürs Leben” (in English: Passion for life) they write about their childhood and youth, about first dates in the Bouldergrotte at the university sports course in Munich, and finally about adventurous expeditions.
Whilst Luis’ life as a mountaineer had almost been predetermined given the fact that he grew up in a mountaineering family in east Allgäu – and Anderl Heckmair, the first climber to accomplish the north face of the Eiger is his godfather – Alix was raised in Hamburg, far away from the mountains, and only made her way to the south to study. They report in a friendly and honest way on breathtaking landscapes and explain that their journey together is more important than bagging a peak, and how they reconcile their jobs, relationship and adventure.
